The Women's Auxiliary Unit #448 is officially charted. The first official meeting was held on November 17, 2007. Members of the Auxiliary have already participated in the Stand down held in September and spent several hours cleaning the Poppy shop.
The officers will participate in events such as the District Christmas party. Several members have volunteered to participate in the sponsored bingo at Boland Hall on December 15, 2007. Bingo starts at 1:00 but we need to be there early to help bring patients down and set up for bingo. Volunteers are needed to assist residents with their bingo card. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Lisa Phillips at 414-479-0571.
The members in attendance at the November meeting spent time planning events for the coming year, discussing a work plan, the need to develop an email contact list, develop a membership list, and more. While we realize that many members live far and near, it is the hope that members close by will attend meetings and become involved. Each member can do as much as they like or as little.
Members have already started planning an event at the Veterans Hospital in March. Members will be contacting the VA to see what we can do as a unit to support hospitalized veterans.
The Unit will also be looking for ideas for the 2008 and need your input. Keep your eyes open for a survey that will be coming your way.
Please think about attending the December 8th meeting. The Unit will be participating in the annual Christmas party held by the Women's Post. Please bring a dish with you.
This meeting will also provide a great opportunity to ask questions of the 5th District President. Jeannette Riekkoff will be in attendance to answer all our questions about the Auxiliary and what it means and does.
For most of us, our Auxiliary Unit serves as a mechanism to honor the Women veterans who sponsored us. As with any new start ups, there are bound to be hiccups. Our unit must deal with all the organizational issues of being new. This is uncharted territory for many of us. We have the Legion Auxiliary District, State and National for guidance; we must decide what direction we carry this.
